While the mosquitos on our list could transmit viruses, such as West Nile, Zika, dengue, and chikungunya, most people have little to no symptoms. Mosquitos are a nuisance that will never go away, but that doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Remove empty cans or jars from the yard, and regularly inspect your property for any standing water. Keep your gutters and downspouts free from clogging and remove any collecting debris. ![]() Lastly, ensure your windows have screens to keep mosquitos from entering your home. Repellents come in handy if it’s too hot outside to wear long pants and long sleeves. Mosquito repellents also work well to deter them from biting you. Wear long sleeves and pants to protect your skin when outdoors, especially at dusk or dawn. It’s best to drain any standing water in and around your home, such as a kiddie pool, buckets, or any other object that holds water. For starters, mosquitos love water and use it to lay their eggs. You can take certain measures to protect yourself and your property by making your property less desirable 1 for these little buggers. Tips for Protecting Yourself Against Mosquitos They lay their eggs in water and feed on mammals. These little buggers have the ability to transmit the West Nile virus 1, but the good news is that most people infected with the West Nile virus do not feel sick.
